Deodorant is a cosmetic product that can be found on a shelf in the bathroom or on the dressing table of almost every person. Today, manufacturers produce many options for this tool, including sprays. Consider the advantages of such an antiperspirant and how to use it correctly.

What it is?

Deodorant spray is a form of antiperspirant release form. The purpose of using this product is reduce perspiration and prevent the spread of unpleasant odors. The product is available in spray cans, in the form of an aerosol. The volume of the can varies from 80 to 250 ml. It has a spray button, when pressed, the product is applied.

Funds are divided depending on the scope of application - deodorant for the body (applied to the area of the axillary hollows), for the legs (has a deodorizing effect on the feet). Separation can be based on the gender characteristics of the user - there are female and male deodorants, depending on the type of skin - deodorants for sensitive skin, on the severity of the problem of sweating - deodorants to combat increased sweating.

Depending on the characteristics of the composition the spray may have additional properties, for example, to provide softness of the skin, to have special protection against the appearance of stains on clothing.

And also the products are divided by the duration of the impact, for example, a 24-hour protective product, deodorants designed for active life (gym).

Advantages and disadvantages

The advantage of the spray is its pronounced antibacterial effect. Since it is the bacteria that are responsible for the appearance of a bad smell, it can be said that the aerosol form helps to effectively combat increased sweating, and as a result, it prevents the appearance of a sweat smell. Antiperspirant in the form of a spray is suitable even for people with hyperhidrosis (increased sweating).

Aerosol does not cause skin irritation, suitable for people suffering from allergies, skin reactions (although this category of users, of course, it is better to choose a hypoallergenic spray). The product does not clog the sweat glands, the skin continues to breathe after applying the spray, and the natural metabolic and thermoregulation processes are not disturbed.

The use of the spray is most hygienic, since in this case the contact of the product with the surface of the skin is excluded. Thanks to this spray, even several people (for example, family members) can use the spray without fear of the spread of skin infections. One of the main advantages of aerosol deodorant is instant absorption, the absence of a sticky film on the skin and traces of dry deodorant on clothes. It is enough to spray the product on the skin, and it is immediately absorbed. And most products also leave a pleasant softness and a feeling of coolness.

Usually aerosol forms have a more pronounced aroma that lasts for a long time. Moreover, the spectrum of choice of deodorant smell is quite wide - from gentle, almost imperceptible, to independent, active. For this reason, some types of aerosol can be used as eau de toilette by spraying them on the body.

If we talk about the compactness of the product, then in this deodorants are inferior to ball and solid counterparts. With an equal volume, the latter usually have a more ergonomic packaging. That's why spray is still considered a means for home use, it is not always convenient to take with you. Although it is fair to say that there are mini-versions of such a deodorant, but they have a smaller volume and are also more expensive.

Another disadvantage can be called uneconomical consumption - when spraying funds, part of it goes into the air. In addition, with careless use, you can get into the eyes, nose and mouth, causing discomfort and burns of the mucous membranes. For this reason Spray deodorant must be protected from children.. Finally, the product is explosive and fire hazard, which is also important to remember when using and storing the aerosol.

Comparison with other species

In its effectiveness, the deodorant spray is generally comparable to a ball analog. However, the antibacterial protection provided by the first agent is still lower than that of a ball deodorant. If you compare these cosmetics in terms of ease of application, the roller versions are inferior to the spray. Spray is enough to spray, after which you can immediately dress. The product is instantly absorbed into the skin and will not leave a sticky layer or marks on clothing. The roller analogue must be given some time after application for absorption, otherwise spots can be put on the clothes.

If you do not have the opportunity to wait until the deodorant is absorbed, it is better to choose a spray or a solid deodorant stick.

As for the safety and hygiene of the product, the product in the form of a spray definitely wins. This is due to the fact that when applying the spray, the product does not come into contact with the skin. All other forms of antiperspirants involve contact with the skin surface, which is fraught with the transfer of bacteria from the body to the deodorant, their further reproduction and transfer back to the skin the next time you use it. Thus, the use of the spray is safer for health.

In favor of sprays - and the pleasant aroma that they possess. Some manufacturers even produce a single line consisting of aerosol deodorant, cosmetic body milk and eau de toilette with one aroma. This allows you to make its sound more pronounced, multi-stage.

Spray also differs from roller and other types of deodorants in high consumption and, as a rule, in higher cost.

How to choose?

The difference between deodorant and antiperspirant should be understood. The former only mask the unpleasant smell of sweat, the latter block the process of perspiration, which means they struggle with its effect - the appearance of a smell. Amendment should be made - contrary to the current view, antiperspirants do not completely block the sweat glands, but narrow them. That is why the use of such funds does not cause violations of thermoregulation and cannot be the cause of the development of cancer. At the same time, antiperspirants are more effective, so most sprays are just that.

Most aerosols contain alcohol. The presence of essential oils in the composition will also help to soften the effect of such a tool. They neutralize the effect of alcohol, reduce its ability to dry the skin.

For people with dry and sensitive skin, products with alcohol in the composition are taboo. Perhaps they should completely abandon the spray by switching to using a roller or a deodorant stick.

The standard composition of the product is as follows:

  • water (plays the role of the base environment in which the remaining elements of the composition dissolve);
  • plant extracts (depending on the type of plant, they perform antibacterial, drying, emollient and other functions; calendula extract, which has deodorizing and drainage effects, is often used);
  • perfumes (provide aroma means);
  • alcohol, farnesol or triclosan (responsible for the disinfecting ability of the spray);
  • plant oils (care for the skin, soften the effect of the disinfecting element);
  • menthol (provides a feeling of freshness and pleasant coolness after application);
  • diethyl ether (provides instant drying of the spray after applying it to the skin).

Triclosan is the most powerful disinfectant, it is usually used in formulations designed for sweating people. However, it dries the skin quite strongly and must be washed off thoroughly at the end of the day. It is better to refrain from buying a drug that contains phthalates, since they can affect the production of testosterone in men, they are dangerous for pregnant women. The presence of propylene glycol can provoke an allergic skin reaction.

Most antiperspirants designed for sports block odors by blocking sweat glands.

With too oily, problematic skin type, such a tool can cause inflammation of the skin. It is important to use such a deodorant only for its intended purpose - during increased physical activity. For the rest of the time, choose a less aggressive tool.

Pay attention to the aroma of the cosmetic product. Quite often, if the deodorant has a strong odor, this reduces its antibacterial activity. In other words, the remedy copes worse with a decrease in sweating, which means it is not suitable for sweating people. If the problem of increased sweating is not relevant for you, you can choose a perfumed deodorant. Usually it has a more pronounced smell and comes complete with eau de toilette, body products (gel, milk). In addition, a too pronounced aroma of deodorant can be intrusive, “argue” with amber of toilet water or perfume. Finally, too active antiperspirant aroma can provoke the development of allergic reactions.

Terms of use

The most important rule for using deodorant (and in any form of release) is to apply it to cleansed skin. Optimal - after the adoption of bath procedures. The skin should be dry. If there is a need to re-spray the product, it is better to first cleanse the skin by taking a shower, or at least wiping the surface of the armpits with wet wipes. It is quite simple to apply the spray - you need to spray it on the skin from a distance of 25-30 cm. Make sure that the product is turned in the right direction so that you inadvertently do not spray the composition onto your face.

Before use, the spray can must be shaken to ensure the uniform distribution of its “ingredients”. After shaving, use a deodorant spray only after 10-12 hours. This time is necessary so that the microdamages of the skin obtained during the procedure have time to tighten. With severe cuts, the use of a spray can cause a burning sensation and other unpleasant sensations. Before going to bed, it is advisable to wash off the deodorant remnants from the skin. It is important to understand that the uncontrolled use of aerosol, like all cosmetics, can harm the body.

It is undesirable to use the product before visiting the beach, solarium. Under the influence of UV rays, the deodorant spray begins to dry more strongly, which can provoke the appearance of age spots. It is important to remember that deodorant spray can is an explosive product. The aerosol is under pressure and can explode when heated to + 50 ° C and above. For this reason, you can not store the product near heating appliances, as well as in places where the sun's rays fall.
