Increased sweating is a cosmetic problem. However, with a significant manifestation of this process, it is a pathology that requires a special approach. Consider what means exist to combat this nuisance.

Features

Hyperhidrosis is scientifically called hyperhidrosis. In some cases, special treatment is required to eliminate the problem, although most often you can do with the use of deodorants.

Deodorants and antiperspirants should be distinguished. The first block the smell, which is a consequence of the sweating process itself. That is, they are struggling with the effect, not the cause. Antiperspirants act on the sweat glands, narrowing them and thereby stopping the sweating process itself. Naturally, an unpleasant odor does not appear. With hyperhidrosis, it is antiperspirants recommended as more effective agents. However, today these concepts are almost identical, since the inscription “deodorant-antiperspirant” flaunts on the label of most cosmetics.

Despite the many differences (in the form of release, purpose, additional functions), the means intended to combat increased sweating have a clear similarity. it the presence of certain components in the composition, for example, aluminum, zinc, lead, chicory salts. They have a blocking effect on the sweat glands.

It is wrong to think that there is some kind of mechanical closure (in the manner of a furnace flap) of sweat glands. These substances, possessing an astringent ability, interact with the components of sweat and form insoluble compounds. The latter cover the walls of the sweat channels, thereby narrowing them down. So created mechanical barrier to sweat.

In addition, the composition of such funds contains substances that reduce the activity and reproduction of pathogenic microorganisms, which become the cause of the appearance of an unpleasant odor.

Finally, anti sweating agents must contain deodorizing and drying ingredients. First of all, it is alcohol, tannins and others.

Thus, an agent intended for use in hyperhidrosis has a threefold effect: it affects the process of sweating, contributing to its reduction, demonstrates an antimicrobial effect, deodorizes (dries) the skin.

Release Forms

Depending on the form of release, several types of deodorants are indicated for hyperhidrosis.

  • Creams. Usually they have a maximum concentration of active substances, and therefore demonstrate effectiveness even in severe forms of pathology. Apply 1-2 times a week, usually not suitable for dry and sensitive skin.
  • Spray. It is produced in a cylinder, sprayed by pressing a button located on this same cylinder. Sprays can have an alcohol or water base, a different concentration of active substances. Depending on this, funds are allocated for daily (or frequent) use and those that need to be applied to the skin 1-2 times a week.
  • Talc or powder. They are usually characterized by a low content of active substances, and therefore are suitable for the treatment of moderate and mild hyperhidrosis. Due to their delicate influence, they can be used on the skin of the face, in the decollete.
  • Roller or ball deodorant. It is a liquid product enclosed in a spray can or jar. The ball acts as a dispenser, which, scrolling, is covered with an antiperspirant. When the ball comes into contact with the skin, the product is applied to the skin.

It has many subspecies that differ in compositional features, the concentration of the active substance, the presence of additional components.

  • Stick A solid form of deodorant resembling soap in appearance and texture.

        Review of the best deodorants

The greatest effectiveness for eliminating hyperhidrosis is demonstrated by medical or pharmacy products. As a rule, they have a more complex composition, higher cost and are sold in pharmacies or specialty stores.

This can be called a deodorant DryDry made in Sweden. It is recommended for use with increased sweating of moderate severity, can be applied to the area of the axillary hollows, feet, palms. It has several forms of release - aerosol, solid deodorant, lotion, talc.

The effectiveness of the product is largely due to the presence of aluminum chloride and alcohol in the hydrate.

Another medical antiperspirant, invariably tops the ranking of similar compounds, a remedy for the British brand Bracey's pharmaceutical. The deodorant itself is called Odaban and has the appearance of a colorless liquid. Available in plastic bottles of 30 ml with a spray. Suitable for the treatment of severe forms of pathology, since it contains 20% aluminum hydrochloride, ethanol and dimethicone.

It is distinguished by its universality of application - it can be applied to the skin of the armpits, arms, legs and other areas of the body, suitable for women and men. Not intended for frequent use - applied 1-2 times a week, at night. Wash off with water in the morning.

The advantage of the composition is its high effectiveness for the treatment of severe hyperhidrosis. However, due to its active action, the product often causes severe dry skin, peeling, and irritation.

It is not suitable for people with dry and sensitive skin types.

But the products of an American manufacturer called Maxim can be used to treat excessive sweating in sensitive skin. To do this, select the Sensitive line - this is a water-based gel with a minimum (slightly above 10%) of aluminum chloride.

However, in the lineup of the manufacturer there is also a more aggressive composition - Dabomatic. The concentration of the active substance in it is 30%, it is intended for the treatment of a pronounced form of pathology.

Maxim is available in the form of a roller antiperspirant, has a water base, does not contain alcohol. The volume of the bottle is 29.6 ml.

Another remedy from the USA - antiperspirant Klima. Externally, it is a clear liquid, enclosed in a stylish 50 ml bottle. The concentration of aluminum chloride is 15%. It has several varieties that differ in purpose - products are available separately for the armpits, for the face, for the hands and feet, for the body. Depending on this, the composition of the product may vary slightly.

Deodorants to prevent excessive sweating may not necessarily be pharmacy only. Many cosmetic companies, along with conventional antiperspirants, produce products for people with hyperhidrosis. Such funds can be found in the Mirra brand line. Deodorants Oriflame, Vichy have proven themselves well.

It should be understood that cosmetic deodorants to combat increased sweating are effective in the treatment of medium and mild forms of pathology. In the fight against the severe stage of hyperhidrosis, they are still powerless.

        How to choose?

One of the main components of the funds of this type are aluminum salts. They can have a different concentration, which is due to the action of the deodorant. With severe hyperhidrosis, you should choose a tool with a 20-30 percent concentration of aluminum. Deodorants in which the aluminum content varies between 10-15% are suitable for combating the moderate to mild degree of pathology. If there is an increased sensitivity of the skin, it is better to choose a water-based product with a small amount of aluminum in the composition.

To combat increased sweating, an aqueous solution of formalin or tannic acid, a solution of potassium permanganate, glutaraldehyde are often added to the deodorant. Undoubtedly, such funds give a tangible effect, however their prolonged use can cause negative reactions of the body.

Regarding the form of release, Better focus on your own preferences. From the point of view of hygiene, deodorant sprays win, since when applied, the product does not come into contact with the skin. This allows aerosols to be used by several people, for example, members of the same family. But sprays are not so economical in consumption compared to sticks and roller counterparts. The spray is in a compressed state, so such deodorants are fire and explosive.

Ball remedies can leave stains on clothes, and also after applying them there is a feeling of a greasy film on the surface of the skin, you have to wait 2-3 minutes until the product dries. These inconveniences are partially devoid of sticks, completely - sprays.

Powder and talcum powder have a more gentle effect on the skin, but possible cost overruns, getting it on clothing, the surface of the room. You need to choose those compounds that get enough sleep with the help of a dispenser.

It is unacceptable to use funds that must be taken from an open can. This is a direct way for pathogenic microorganisms to enter it.

        Terms of use

Despite the benefits of antiperspirants, they can be harmful. First of all, it is hydradenitis, that is, chronic inflammation of the sweat glands. In most cases, its development is associated with improper use of the product, its uncontrolled use.

It is unacceptable to use such formulations during pregnancy and lactation, in the presence of hormonal failures, during puberty.

The described antiperspirants should be applied at night, after thoroughly cleaning (taking a shower) and drying the skin. It is unacceptable to apply the product to damaged and inflamed areas. After depilation or epilation, at least two days must pass before antiperspirant can be applied.

You can not use the described means before intense physical exertion, sunbathing, visiting a bath or sauna. It is better to replace them with a regular deodorant.

If itching and burning appear after application, immediately wash off the composition with skin with water. Do not apply antiperspirant to the skin for the next 24 hours. If you repeat the reaction after a specified amount of time, refuse to use this tool.

If redness and swelling occurs, also stop using the composition until hyperemia is completely eliminated, apply a softening cream to the skin. With severe irritation, pharmacy ointments and creams containing hydrocortisone can be applied to the skin.

It is important to follow the manufacturer's recommendations set out in the instructions for use of the product. Most of them do not need to be applied daily, it is enough to do it every other day or even 1-3 times a week.

As a rule, for the action of the active components, it is enough to leave the product on the skin for 6 to 10 hours, after which it is advisable to wash it off with water (even if the manufacturer does not write about it in the instructions).

If we are talking about using not a pharmacy, but a cosmetic product, then usually they are applied as a usual deodorant. That is, they can be used on a regular basis and applied to clean skin.

Sprays are sprayed at a distance of 20 cm from the skin. They absorb immediately, so you can immediately dress. When using a “roller” and a stick (they also need to be applied only on clean skin), it is necessary to let the product soak (usually it takes 2-3 minutes) and only after that put on.
