Montenegro is a small state on the shores of the Adriatic Sea, a vacation in which is decorated with a comfortable, typically Mediterranean climate. Montenegro resorts are a good option for a relatively budget vacation with high comfort. It is worth noting that the swimming season begins here from mid-May and ends in October.
The coast of Montenegrin resorts is filled with both sandy beaches and places of relaxation with pebbles. But for the most comfortable stay, you should opt for resorts with sandy beaches. Let's take a closer look at the most popular holiday destinations in Montenegro with soft sand near the water.
Where are you located?
The total length of the Montenegrin coast is 293.5 km. And on these shores are the main capital of Montenegro - its beaches, which are only 117. Notably, the concept of a "private" beach in Montenegro is not possible, you can rent a section of the beach for rent and keep it according to simple rules: to maintain the cleanliness and condition of the coastal zone all year round, leave at least half of the space free from sunbeds, guarantee free entry and access to the sea.
The beaches of Montenegro are distinguished by their cleanliness, water quality, landscaping, which was marked by blue flags. The shores are mostly rocky, concrete or pebble, while there are not many areas with sand. But each of the sandy beaches of Montenegro is worthy of attention, and many tourists do not bypass them. A feature of the sandy beaches of Montenegro is heavy sand, which willingly settles to the bottom (in fact, therefore, the blue flags stick to the beach resorts of this country). The main resorts by the sea with sandy beaches are located in the cities of Herceg Novi, Kotor, Budva, Ulcinj, Bar, Tivat.
The number of sandy embankments in these cities is different. For example, in Kotor there is only one sandy beach - Luta, located almost 10 kilometers from the city center. Herceg Novi has several main sandy beaches, but the most popular are Sutorina (or Blatna Plaza) and Zhorović. The beaches of Zhorović are very beautiful, it is believed that they have healing sand.
Tivat has a large number of sandy beaches, including Selyanovo, Opatovo and Kalardovo (not completely sandy) as well Blue skyline (with the hotel complex of the same name). Among the many beaches in Budva, the most famous Yaz, Trsteno (with a steep seabed) Ploce (isolated from others, therefore suitable for peaceful relaxation), Mogren with a steep entrance to the sea as well Slavic beach (pebble, but sand is present).
In addition to these beaches, in Budva there are Becici which is ideal for family vacations due to the vast sandy space and more gentle terrain, Kamenovo, Tsarevna Glavitsa, Perazic, Petrovac and Lucice. All these beaches form the so-called Budva Riviera.
There are beaches in Bar Sutomore and Red Beach. Ulcinj is ready to offer Big beach with a coastline of more than 10 kilometers, which can serve as a service for those seeking a relaxing holiday. Ulcinj also has beach on the island of Ada Boyana, but it is mainly for nudists and seekers of secluded relaxation. And in the town of Dobra Voda is located Great Pesak beach (or Piesak).
The most beautiful and original
Such a great abundance of beaches in this country explains the large number of beautiful beach "pearls".
The first "gem" on our list will be Sveti Stefan in the Budva Riviera. Sveti Stefan is located on the island of the same name with clear water, golden sand and the desired privacy. One part of the coast on a sandy spit belongs to the hotel, and the other is public, both parts are separated by an isthmus. The joint length of the coastline is about 700 meters, and this coast is never crowded. Moreover, to visit the beach of the hotel you need to rent a sunbed for 100 euros, and in the neighborhood on the same spit you can relax for free.
Sveti Stefani beach has a “golden apple” - a prestigious international award.
Montenegro has its own “Hawaii” on the island of St. Nicholaswhich is located near Budva. Its name - "Hawaii", the island justifies the presence on its shore of the eponymous restaurant. Some time the island is connected with the Budva trail. In Hawaii there are both secluded, wild embankments, as well as popular ones, with good infrastructure and a steady flow of tourists.
These places are distinguished by turquoise water, which pleases tourists, but there are many sea urchins in the water, so you need to be careful.
In Montenegro, among other things, there are Royal Beach divided into the beaches of the King and Queen and also located near Budva, in a lagoon in the area of Milocher. It was named so because it was previously owned by the royal family of the Karageorgievichs. In total, this coastal zone has a length of 200 meters, and only the King's embankment is sandy. The entire complex of the royal beach is assigned to the Sveti Stefan Aman Resort, and you can get to this territory without living at the hotel for at least fifty euros.
It is worth noting that this place has an elite status, mainly VIPs, politicians, celebrities rest here.
The Budva Riviera also includes Slavic beach with a mixture of sand and pebbles. It is located near the center of Budva, has a volleyball court and a length of more than 1.5 kilometers. This area is notable primarily for its atmosphere of parties, fun and incredibly rich leisure, but this can be a minus for those who appreciate privacy.
Great beach Not far from Ulcinj, it is 13 kilometers long, and the sand there is white. The shore is gentle and the bottom is shallow, the depth grows slowly, up to 40 meters from the water's edge.
The water is very clean, sports fields are also equipped.
The best beaches for families with children
If you intend to relax by the sea with your children, then the beaches should be clean, safe, and if possible with shallower waters.
In Montenegro, the best sandy areas for families with children - Sutomore, Rafailovichi, Kamenovo, Lucice, Bulyaritsa, Petrovac, Chan, as well as Lustica bay.
Sutomore is 2.5 kilometers long, and in some places steep slopes lead to the beach itself. It is especially pleasant in Sutomore that during the tourist season most of the streets are blocked for transport, which increases the safety of the city for children. The atmosphere on the Sutomore embankments is calm, but there is the opportunity to engage in active leisure activities, for example, diving, ride a banana and a cheesecake, try a jet ski and a catamaran.
There are many cafes on the coast and, despite the abundance of tenants, the infrastructure is developed equally in the whole territory.
The first is conventionally shared with neighboring Becici with sand cover, paragliding and jet skiing. The second zone is located east and differs from the first only in that it is closer to St. Stephen's Island, and the coastline is somewhat narrower. The third part, unlike the first two, has quite a few sun loungers, so vacationers are placed on towels.
Since the pier is close located, the water here is not very clean in comparison with other sections of the embankment.
The next section is located in two cozy bays behind the pier, where the water is much cleaner. The fifth section is described above under the name "Hawaii", and the sixth has its own name - Kamenovo.
On Kamenovo we will dwell in more detail, as it is a separate beach. This is the cleanest territory with clear turquoise water, located in the vicinity of Budva. The sandy shore with a small amount of small pebbles. If you are going on vacation with prams, you should know that then descent can be problematic, but this is not a critical shortcoming, especially if you already have more mobile children. The beach is not as visited as others, as there are not many housing nearby. The length of the territory of Kamenovo is about 350 meters. The coastline is wide, the entrance to the sea is gentle.
You can still pay attention to Lucice beach. This is a 220-meter-long territory where even in season there are no crowds occupying this place. The coast is sheltered in a small cozy bay and has a not quite uniform coating - small pebbles and coarse sand. The entrance to the sea is gentle, but in places there are relatively large stones, which should be borne in mind. At great depths, sea urchins are occasionally found.
In general, the place is regularly cleaned of debris up to attracting divers. It is curious that in this territory it is quite common to leave your things unattended and, for example, go to the restroom, cafe or swim. The level of security of this recreation area allows this to happen.
Children can be taken with them to Bulyaritsa. The coast there is surrounded by coniferous forest, thanks to which you can enjoy not only beautiful landscapes, but also fresh forest air mixed with sea. Renting accessories on this beach is much cheaper than the average for Montenegro.
Bulyaritsa has a length of 2.5 kilometers and a sandy coating with occasionally occurring small pebbles. The infrastructure is slightly behind the average level in Montenegro, but the path to this recreation area runs through a settlement with pleasant architecture and spacious buildings. There is a cafe and a restaurant on the beach, there is a shower, and for extra leisure time there are catamarans and aquatic zorbas - hollow balls made of plastic, designed for skating on water.
In addition, there is a campsite on the territory that allows you to live for a while directly by the sea.
Petrovac hides its beach areas in several small bays, the distance to which allows you to get from the hotel on foot. Moreover, there are no exclusively sandy territories in this place; the coverage in this recreation area is mainly a mixture of pebbles with coarse-grained sand. The entrance to the sea is gentle, warms up to 5 meters from the water's edge, and the depth allows even small children to swim there.
There are no cafes or restaurants on the shore, but you can always find them on the promenade, plus locals often sell boiled corn and donuts.
We should also mention one of the beaches of Petrovac - Lustica. It is located a 15-minute walk from the central beach of Petrovac, and the bay itself is hidden from the eyes of observers who like to stare out of the windows of the rooms. In the middle of the beach there is a bar Medina, and nearby a cafe that can offer wood-pizza. Closer to Petrovac there is a cozy restaurant framed by pines.
Chan - a beach of sand and pebbles, called Pearl because of the similarity of local pebbles with pearls. In addition to the main beach, the Queen's Beach is 220 meters long. It is surrounded by sheer cliffs, so you can get there only by water, it is very convenient to enter it here, since the descent is gentle. Kamenny Small Beach, 100 meters long, has much more sand.
Both of these beaches are wild and can serve if the main beach is full.

To summarize the above, we can name the three best resorts with sandy beaches in Montenegro.
At the first place - Budva due to the abundance of beaches, comfortable hotels.
The second point is towns Milocer and St. Stephendistinguished by their beauty, long beaches, exotic vegetation.
