Initially, the brand had a completely different name: its history originates in the distant 1949 in the town of Kobe in the difficult post-war period. Even then, the founder of the company, 32-year-old Japanese Kihachiro Onitsuka, inspired by the idea to help people restore their mental and physical balance, decided to raise the spirit of the nation. His dream was to unite people through sports.

So, suction cups on the soles of the famous Onitsuka basketball shoes appeared thanks to the tentacles of an octopus. The brand became the first brand to launch basketball sneakers.

The sole of this model, called Bashu, was decorated with a tiger head. Soon the brand became known as Onitsuka Tiger.

The ideas of the famous Japanese began to be used by other manufacturers (in particular, Nike), which led to litigation. However, it was persistence and the desire to move forward that allowed the company to take a leading position in its segment. In 1977, Chihachiro merged with the GTO brand (manufacturer of sports and fishing products) and the Jelenk brand (uniform designer).

From that moment, the company began to be called Asics, after the first letters of the Japanese proverb “Anima Sana in Corpore Sano” (in a healthy body - a healthy mind).

Today, the brand is successful and recognizable. It produces a sports line of shoes and clothes for men, women and children, is a supplier of sportswear for Olympic teams, actively promotes its products on the world market and often acts as a sponsor of the largest teams of sports events.

The heart of the company is the Sports Science Research Institute, opened in May 1990 in Kobe, which is engaged in the study and development of ideal shoes, clothes, accessories for sports and outdoor activities.
