Boots Dr. Martens have long been cult and for many subcultures they are important. Today, not only famous berets are popular, but also shoes, boots and sandals that are known and loved around the world. It is not necessary to be a punk or a lover of gothic style to wear “martins”, because this is one of the few cases when shoes are a manifestation of freedom of spirit and are suitable for absolutely everyone!

A bit of history

The first berets of Dr. Martens was invented by Klaus Mertens. At the end of World War II, he injured his leg due to walking in uncomfortable army boots. After he came up with the idea to sew a pair of boots that would be similar to military, but they were soft and comfortable.

There are two versions: one says that he stole some leather, a needle and thread during mass robberies, the other that he acquired them from a shoemaker neighbor. In any case, the materials that appeared with him made it possible to realize his idea.

A pair of unique shoes with a special sole design was really extremely comfortable to wear. While walking, the sole springed, so the legs practically did not feel fatigue even during prolonged wear.

Thanks to the help of her friend, the doctor Herbret Funk, the newly-minted colleagues began mass production of shoes. Tools were used for sewing: military leather pants were the basis, shoulder straps played the role of insoles, and the sole was cut out of rubber from decommissioned military aircraft.

Comfortable shoes quickly gained popularity, so friends soon opened a factory in Munich. In the late 50s, their shoes began to appear in international stores, in particular, in the British Shoe & Leather News. The owner of this store bought a license for tailoring orthopedic shoes with air soles.

So, in 1960, the first official Dr. boots appeared Martens, who were named after their creator.Initially, they cost only a couple of dollars, because they were designed for working class people.

Soon they began to be worn by skinheads, who made the red martins a symbol of their movement. In certain eras, they were worn by punks, representatives of musical culture, Goths, and representatives of other subcultures. Thus, they fell into youth fashion.

Since the beginning of the 90s, young girls began to wear them, combining socks with light dresses. Today, there are no restrictions at all, because martins are the most popular shoes of the 21st century. A large selection of models and colors allows you to choose Dr. shoes Martens for all occasions.

Features

The first official martins had such an appearance, the code for which today we mean the classic model: a rounded toe, a sole with a tread, a metal toe, 8 holes for the laces, cherry color and signature yellow stitching. On each pair was sewn on a strap with the inscription “AirWair”.

To date, the appearance of the famous boots has repeatedly changed. Back in the early 90s, the assortment of the brand represented more than 3 thousand models: men's, women's, children's, unisex. They differed in the texture of the material, color schemes and the shape of the toe, but still the key features of the boots always remain unchanged.

Any matrins have a durable rubber sole, which is not afraid of the effects of aggressive environments and does not slip on ice. The anatomical shape of the insole repeats all the bends of the foot, providing maximum comfort.

Strong skin is treated with a special composition that has water repellent properties. But the most important thing is Dr. Martens are versatile and combine with clothes of absolutely any style.

Varieties

Bertsa

Bertsa was the first, and is still the main line of shoes produced by the brand. They can be of several types: with 8 holes for shoelaces, with 10 and with 14. We will dwell on each model in more detail a little later.

Ankle boots are matte and varnished, and their color scheme is very diverse. The most popular are black, burgundy, brown and blue. Also there are models with a wide variety of drawings.

Chelsea

The model has its own characteristics - ankle height, rounded toe, wide rubber inserts and a small loop at the back with the brand's motto. Chelsea are presented in a large assortment: leather and eco-leather (vegan), rubber, textile, flat soles and small heels, with zipper and winter with fur. The color scheme is classic, restrained, as it should be for true "British".

Shoes

Shoes are short berets with three holes. These shoes are the “cropped” version of the 1460 model. Initially, they were worn by English postmen, but today elegant lace-up shoes have become a real classic. They can even be worn for work, because, in fact, this is a derby in the embodiment of the Dr. brand Martens.

There are monk martins, a model called Jules. These are shoes without laces, the role of fasteners in which two buckles play.

Previous models belong to the “unisex” category, but open shoes with a strap on the rise (Mary Jane) are purely female, suitable for both young girls and young girls. The model is called Indica.

Models

Winter

Boots with fur are great for the winter season. Outwardly, they are not very different from the classic ones, but have a plush lining and a thickened rubber sole.

High

For all its outward rudeness and brutality, the 1914 model looks rather harmonious on elegant female legs. Thanks to the presence of 14 holes for laces, a high shaft reaches almost to the knee, skillfully emphasizes the bends of the ankle and helps create a harmonious silhouette.

They will look great together with skinny jeans or a short skirt, because a flat sole and a masculine appearance will smooth out a certain vulgarity that sometimes slips in a combination of high boots and a mini skirt.

Low

Short berets Martens is a classic, it is the first model under number 1460 with eight holes for laces, which has gained worldwide popularity. The color gamut of the models is diverse, but, unlike high ones, low berets combine perfectly with almost any clothing. There are no restrictions; don’t wear them, except with a business suit, if you have a strict dress code at work.

Heels

Massive-heeled women's ankle boots were created especially for those girls who want to combine elegance and comfort. The model was named after the ancient Greek goddess of fertility, Persephone.

Despite the heel that appeared, the main features of the boots remained unchanged. This is also a thick springy sole with a tread, a rounded toe, but 6 holes for laces, instead of the classic 8.

Transparent

Transparent berets are made of vulcanized rubber and provide them with a classic anti-slip sole. A kind, these are rubber boots, only on laces. They can be colorless, colored and with various prints. Look great with colorful socks and cropped jeans.

Varnished

Lacquered shoes of this brand are presented in several lines. It can be models with heels, high, low, classic. Since glossy coatings are more valued by girls, patent leather shoes often make bright colors and complement with a variety of patterns.

Baby

For a long time, the brand has been producing boots for young rebels and small dudes. A large assortment of shoes for girls and boys pleases with its variety and a wide dimensional grid - from 28 to 34 sizes.

You can purchase both plain and printed boots, for example, camouflage colors, with flowers and even a Hello Kitty image.

Color schemes

The first canon martins were cherry-colored. At first they wanted to make them universal black, but then settled on a more interesting color.

Today, black shoes are hard to find in women's lines, although nothing is impossible. Nevertheless, designers are trying to please the fans of the brand with bright and rich colors.

Red, green, pink, blue, white, yellow boots are popular. They will invariably attract attention and make any look memorable.

If you prefer more restrained options, choose brown, burgundy, mustard, khaki. They can be called universal, they will become a soft completion of the image.

Martins with different prints look interesting: in a flower, with the image of comic book and cartoon characters, with abstract drawings, flags of different countries. The fantasy of designers knows no bounds!

This season, at the peak of popularity, boots made of metallic leather, because this is a real trend of the season. Silver, golden, raspberry and blue - shiny berets Dr. Martens will be a real highlight of your image.

How and what to wear?

Boots Dr. Martens have a unique ability - they look amazingly good with any clothes. The secret lies in eclecticism and playing in contrasts so fashionable today.

With jeans and pants

Nevertheless, these are ideal shoes for the bad girl look. Torn jeans, dark lipstick, dark glasses, a jacket and rough boots - and a stylish look is ready, which has not been associated with informals for a long time. This is a completely universal outfit that is suitable for any unofficial event. At least for shopping, at least for a party. Convenient, relevant and moderately bold.

If you want aggressiveness in the image, black color and clothing made of leather, camouflage and denim will help to manifest it. For example, in winter, martins, blue jeans, a gray sweatshirt and a khaki parka will perfectly combine, in autumn the park can be replaced with a bomber.

With dress and skirt

In order not to lose your femininity, putting on Dr. Martens, make sure that the image necessarily has some kind of purely girlish accessory. It can be a flower blouse or dress, a hat with a ribbon, a blouse with a flirty neckline, or, in extreme cases, pink lip gloss. In a word, any element that will not allow your image to become androgynous, if only you yourself do not want it.

An excellent combination will turn out from martins, airy dress and jackets or a denim jacket. You can wear them with a skirt-sun or pencil and a light blouse with a flirty pattern.

How to lace up?

Even if you prefer strict minimalism, unusual lacing will help diversify the image. There are many ways to lace up martins, making it beautiful.

Lace up short martins-shoes so that on the wrong side there were horizontal lines, and diagonal ones were located below. The lacing will turn out simple and neat, will not distract attention from the shoes themselves.

Bertsa will suit the traditional lacing crosswise, but it can be varied. Alternate the intersecting elements so that one cross passes from below and the other from above, focusing on the drawing. So it will be much easier to put on and take off shoes, loosening the lacing. This is especially true for high martins.

Video will help you to get acquainted with interesting ways of lacing.

Selection and Care Tips

Many are interested in how to distinguish original martins from fakes. First, evaluate the quality of the material, they should be natural - leather, suede or nubuck, with the exception of the Vegan line. These shoes are sewn from high-quality eco-leather, which looks no different from genuine.

They use soft leather for sewing, if after trying on you feel that the berets are “like wooden”, this should cause you first doubts.

There is no plastic sole, it should not be too rigid to the touch and the presence of an air cushion is mandatory. On the sole is necessarily present all the necessary branding of the brand.

The logo must be embossed on the insole, it will not be superfluous to check it for the absence of spelling errors.

The shoes are always packed in a strong box, the brand logo is present on the lid and on the side of the box. Verify the information on the box with the information on the berets. Needless to say, it must be identical. The box must have spare shoelaces packed in a branded bag.

How to deliver?

  • Martins are very well-worn, so some prefer to take shoes one size smaller. True, for this to happen naturally, you have to wait a couple of months.
  • There are several ways to speed up this process. Take out the laces and rub into Dr. Magic Balm Dr. Martens. You can use a less expensive product, for example, baby oil without perfumes and dyes.
  • Put on thick woolen socks, shoe boots and walk around the room in them. You can go outside, but do not go far from home - go to martins for no more than two hours, and then take a break. Over time, increase the time of socks, until they finally spread.

Care

In the care of Dr. shoes Martens is no big deal.

  1. If heavy stains form on shoes, remove them with a damp cloth and leave to dry.
  2. If the shoes are wet, wipe them dry and place on a newspaper or old towel and leave to dry naturally. Never use a heater or radiator to avoid deformation of the skin.
  3. Use special leather shoe care products - cream, spray or balm, which must be applied evenly to the shoes daily. It is preferable to do this with a special sponge, which is often sold in the kit. If you wear colored martins, you will need a transparent product that does not stain shoes.
