A bold and strong Alabai dog will become a brave defender and a true friend for the breeder. Due to its impressive size, Central Asian Shepherds attract the attention of private home owners. Fluffy puppies at 1 month old are already quite large and resemble teddy bears. Growing a healthy pet will help a balanced diet and thorough care.
About the breed
In addition to alabai, this weather bears the names of the Central Asian Shepherd and the Turkmen Wolfhound. Large dogs first appeared in Asian countries (from the Chinese border to the shores of the Caspian Sea). The name “Alabay” is translated from the Turkic language as “motley” and “rich”. Most likely, it was given to the animal due to its chic coat of the original color. Alabai are relatives of the Tibetan mastiffs, which amazed with their size.
In ancient times, Turkmen wolfhounds belonged to shepherd breeds of dogs. They guarded cattle from attacks by wild animals and escorted nomadic peoples along the way. The main opponent of the Central Asian Shepherd was a hungry wolf. The strongest representatives of the breed, who continued the population, survived in the fights.
Standard
The Central Asian Shepherd Dog has a frightening appearance. The features of the breed include:
- a massive massive head that resembles a bear;
- elongated muzzle with wide lower jaws;
- pronounced superciliary arches;
- expressive eyes;
- luxurious hair resembling a “fur coat” of a wild animal;
- strong muscular body with a wide chest.
Whether to stop the tail and ears of the animal, the owner decides for himself. The breed standard allows both options. Alabai with a long tail and uncircumcised ears is not defective.The colors of the Central Asian Shepherd are black, white, gray and tan. There are individuals with tiger-colored fur. Dogs grow up to 12 months and reach a height of 80 cm.
Alabai puppies resemble funny plush toys. Like adult dogs, they have a “bearish” head with a large nose. The eyes of the babies are dark in color, far located from each other. Small ears with tips bent down. Strong legs of an oval form. Babies are born with thick, stiff hair.
Features of growing up. Height and weight of puppies in 1 month
Alabai are born weighing 300-400 grams. By the age of one month, babies should weigh 3-5 kg. Boys are larger than girls, their height reaches 30 cm. For babies at this age, an elongated body with short legs.
By the age of two months, the pet will weigh about 10 kg and will acquire the features of an adult dog.
Feeding
In order for the puppy not to suffer from indigestion, his nutrition should be balanced and portioned. The first 10 days, the baby receives food that he was given in the nursery. It is necessary to feed the puppy in 1 month 5-6 times a day.
A growing body requires a lot of protein (raw, lean meat, dairy products and eggs). For the baby, the meat is chopped quite finely. Giving minced meat is undesirable, as it enters the intestines in a semi-digested form.
It’s best for puppies to abstain from raw chicken hearts or liver at 1 month, as they may contain worm embryos.
Offal is more suitable for older dogs. As for the "milk", at the first stage the Alabai are given cottage cheese. Pets at the age of one to two months are useful calcified dairy product. You can cook it yourself: add 2-3 tablespoons of calcium chloride solution (10%) to boiling milk.
When the milk is curdled, it is filtered and the puppy is given a warm look. This dish is especially useful for pets in the autumn-winter period to prevent rickets. Also, raw eggs should be included in the diet of the Central Asian Shepherd. Kids should mix them with dairy products or cereals.
In addition, puppies can be fed omelettes. Alabai is enough for 2-3 eggs per week.
Small pets of this breed with pleasure absorb boiled sea fish, which must first be cleaned of the entrails and bones. Puppies should not give the fillet of river inhabitants, it can be infected with tape worms. Also, the menu of a monthly puppy alabai should contain:
- oatmeal, buckwheat cereal;
- raw carrots and cabbage;
- greens (finely chopped lettuce and parsley).
As for dry feed, then for Central Asian Shepherd Dog fit premium and super-premium products. Before feeding, the granules are soaked in water and after 10 minutes give the puppy. The breeder should closely monitor the weight of the pet and not overfeed it.
Despite mobility, Alabai puppies are obese.
Care and maintenance
From the first days of the appearance of a puppy in the house, it must be properly educated. Girls of this breed are smaller and calmer. They lend themselves well to training and are kind to small households. Males from an early age possess an independent character and leadership qualities. The owner must not miss the moment and gain credibility in the eyes of the pet. With a competent approach, a brave defender and a loyal friend will grow out of a puppy.
Naturally, a large dog requires a large space. As a rule, puppies begin to be prepared for a “yard” life from 5-6 months, when they have a thick undercoat. Up to this point, the sleeping place of the teddy bear should be warm and cozy. The breeder must pre-purchase for the pet:
- a bowl;
- clipper;
- a brush for combing wool;
- muzzle;
- set of toys.
Puppies are bathed as they become dirty, and their hair is combed regularly (1-2 times a week). It is important to accustom the puppy to the clipping procedure, as well as the treatment of the auricles and oral cavity.Another important point for breeders of the Central Asian Shepherd is a “familiarity” with the muzzle. They begin to dress him in the muzzle of the puppy every day for 10-15 minutes and put his favorite pet treat in it. Thus, the dog will gradually get used to the “accessory” and will not show discontent.
Note that puppies of the Alabai breed until 2 months of age are not yet fully vaccinated, therefore it is undesirable for them to contact other animals.
