The homeland of aquarium thornsia is the South American continent, where it lives in Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia and other countries, preferring small rivers and a calm flow of water. The tetra family lives in the aquarium for about 4 years, but with proper maintenance and proper care. Besides the fact that the fish is easy to care for, it also attracts aquarists by the fact that it has a bright and interesting coloring of the scales, achieved by artificial injection. Since thornsia is an unpretentious and peaceful fish, aquarists gladly start it. You just need to first find out with what living creatures it can be kept in one aquarium, and for whom it is absolutely not suitable as a neighbor.

Character Features

In the aquarium, thorns are a rather mobile individual. She has a peaceful and kind disposition, so she easily gets along with many types of fish. He prefers to live in a flock, so you need to populate thorns in the aquarium with a company of relatives in the amount of 6-8 pieces. For one fish, 10 liters of water is required, so for a larger number of these inhabitants of the aquarium, the volume of water increases in accordance with the indicated norm. Pets love to swim - thorns do it very actively, and therefore, planting vegetation, you do not need to overdo it with its quantity.

The length of the body of thorns is about 6 cm, the ridge is overstated, has an elongated shape. Females are larger in size. Spawning occurs at the moment when the fish reaches 4 cm. The thorns of classical appearance have a grayish-black color, and on its sides there are black stripes, the same stripes near the anal fins. The fish occupies a large area because of its fin - it looks like a skirt.

Ternetia is omnivorous, feeds on plant and animal feed. The fish is undemanding and hardy, which is just suitable for beginners who want to start an aquarium with fish. Ternetia is a flock of fish, so living alone will not bring her anything other than suffering.

In the company of their brethren, the throne is peaceful. But if she lives alone in the tank, she will become aggressive and nervous.

Who gets along with the thorns?

The compatibility of these fish with the inhabitants of the marine world depends on what kind of neighbors live with them. Populating pets with miniature, aggressive or large fish, as well as with veiled tails is a bad idea. The large wavy fins of the veil-tail will attract the attention of active thorns that will not fail to bite their tail and drive around the aquarium. But there are those types of fish that are great for living together with thorns.

We can distinguish a favorable neighborhood with the following representatives of the aquarium fauna: neon, swordsman, iris, molliesia, pecilia, cardinal, antsistrus, barbus, thornsia, tetra, guppy, parsing, zebrafish. All of these fish can be kept in the same aquarium with thorns, without worrying about the tranquility of the personal underwater community. You can add fish such as mollies to tetra, but preferably not one, but several pieces - for example, a female and a male.

Limited compatibility with thorns with macropod, melanochromis, flashlight, cichlazoma, lalius. That is, it is possible to contain these fish with thorns, but in an extreme case, constantly monitoring the situation. Perfect neighborhood guaranteed with cardinals, catfishes, zebrafish and swordsmen. These fish have an amazing feature - depending on environmental conditions, they can change in color, for example, black individuals can instantly become transparent.

You need to plant plants in the aquarium, choosing them carefully. After all, each species of fish has its own preferences. It is important to create such conditions that all fish are comfortable in the tank.

Who are not compatible with?

Ternetia coexists with many representatives of the marine world, but you should be aware that it is categorically impossible to keep it in the tank along with cichlids, notobranchs, trophies - a fish can bite other individuals.

Black thorns sometimes arrange fights even between individuals of their kind. Usually they are harmless, but sometimes unpleasant can occur - and the fins of the fish will be damaged. Experienced aquarists advise to exclude the accommodation of thorns with slow fish, because the first is characterized by activity. As a result, calm fish will remain hungry, as tetras will not let them eat calmly.

With small fish, as well as those with large fins, it is better not to combine thorns. They will bite the fins of other fish, severely damaging them. In addition, shrimp should not be planted in the thorn, because the fish can just eat it. Large and territorial cichlids - zebras, eleots, yellow - are also not suitable for living together with tetras.

What should be considered when replacing fish?

For comfortable living of the fish in the aquarium, it needs relatives - it is better to immediately place several thorns in the tank. Sometimes they drive each other, but loneliness negatively affects black tetras. It is not so important - whether they settle them in a new aquarium, where no one else is there, or with other fish - they need individuals of their own species.

In addition, if you want to get some slow-moving fish, which has average compatibility with thorns, then the latter, focusing on the fish of their biofield, will not cause any trouble. Less active and calm neighbors can feel quite comfortable, as tetras will not interfere with their normal existence.

For a comfortable stay all the fish should choose a large aquarium - no one will feel crowded, everyone will have enough space.

Goldfish are characterized by slowness, in addition, they have large fins, which makes the neighborhood with tetras incompatible. Golden beauties eat smaller fish, and they also have different conditions of detention. Danio - colored fluorescent fish that come in red, orange, purple and other colors. They are surprisingly hardy and unpretentious, great for neighborhood with tetra.

Danio glofish requires an aquarium of 40 liters or more, because these fish are recommended to be kept in groups, like thorns. This is worth considering. In addition, this type of fish prefers warm water - at least 27 degrees, which is just perfect for sharing with tetra.

Whatever fish you choose to decorate your aquarium - do not forget that each species has its own preferences, living conditions and quirks. Sometimes people are surprised that some fish disappeared from the aquarium. But the thing is that initially the neighborhood was incorrectly chosen. If you pay attention to all the nuances, keep and mix the fish in the tank correctly, then the fish will live a long time and not cause trouble.
